Florida Roof Hardening Grants: Know the Rules Before You Spend

Eligible Florida homeowners may qualify for up to in My Safe Florida Home reimbursement for approved hurricane-hardening improvements. Sarge helps Central Florida homeowners understand the roofing side: roof covering, secondary water resistance, roof deck attachment, and wind mitigation documentation.

Possible state contribution For eligible grant applicants and approved improvements only. The program is reimbursement-based and work must follow the official process.

What Roof Items May Matter

The official program is about wind mitigation, not ordinary patch work. Roof-related recommendations can become valuable when they are listed in the My Safe Florida Home inspection report.

Roof Deck Attachment

Additional or upgraded fastening can help reduce the chance of plywood decking lifting during hurricane winds.

Roof Covering

Stronger hurricane-resistant roof covering may be part of an eligible project when recommended through the program process.

Secondary Water Resistance

Peel-and-stick or approved secondary water resistance can help reduce water intrusion if the roof covering is damaged.

Important: My Safe Florida Home grant money is not for roof patching or ordinary partial repairs. If a roof-related improvement is recommended and the roof must be removed to complete that improvement, roof covering costs may be part of the total project cost under program rules.

How the Lead Should Work

Apply through the official program

Start with the official My Safe Florida Home inspection and grant process. Funding windows and eligibility can change.

Review the inspection recommendations

The report tells you what improvements may be eligible. Do not assume every roof replacement qualifies.

Call Sarge before signing a roofing contract

We can look at the roof scope, the roof system, and the mitigation items so you understand the roofing side before moving forward.

Good Fits for This Page

Older Roof + Insurance Pressure

If insurance is asking questions about roof age, a wind mitigation path may be worth understanding.

Planning a Roof Replacement

If you already need a roof, the timing may matter if your inspection recommends eligible roof-hardening work.

Storm Season Preparation

Florida homeowners who want a stronger roof system should understand roof deck, underlayment, and covering options.

What Happens After You Send It

  1. Sarge calls you back personally — usually same day, no gatekeeper, no call center.
  2. He pulls your roof age, your carrier's 15-year clock, and your MSFH grant eligibility before he ever rings your bell.
  3. He walks the roof himself. No salesman. No subcontractor knock-and-talk.
  4. You get a straight answer: keep it, certify it, or replace it. He'll tell you which one even if it costs him the job.

Got neighbors asking the same question? When Sarge is already on your street, the truck's already there — tell him who else on the block wants a walk and he'll work it into the same trip.
