Sarge is a Florida-licensed roofing contractor. He documents what he sees. He provides written estimates. He gives you the paperwork your carrier needs. He does not file claims for you and he does not negotiate with your carrier. That's your right under Florida law and we don't get in the middle of it.
Florida Statute 626.854 restricts who can adjust or negotiate claims on your behalf. A licensed public adjuster can. A licensed attorney can. A roofing contractor cannot - and any roofer who tells you otherwise is putting both their license and your claim at risk.
What a Florida-licensed roofer like Sarge does:
What a Florida-licensed roofer like Sarge does NOT do:
After every damage inspection, you receive a written packet that includes:
That packet goes to you. You decide what to do with it. If you give a copy to your carrier or your public adjuster, that's your choice and your communication - not ours.
You can absolutely use a different roofer for the actual repair. Sarge inspecting and documenting your damage creates zero obligation to use Sarge for the work.
What that often means is the roofer plans to negotiate with your carrier on your behalf. Under Florida law, they cannot. If they're saying it, they're either misrepresenting what they do or they're operating outside their license.
No Florida contractor can promise a claim outcome. The carrier and the adjuster decide that based on your policy and the documented damage. A promise of approval is a sales pitch, not a fact.
Assignment of Benefits gives the contractor your claim rights. Florida limited AOBs in 2019 (HB 7065) and again in 2022 because homeowners were getting trapped in contracts they couldn't escape. We never use AOBs.
This is a felony in Florida under F.S. 489.147. Any contractor who quotes a deductible waiver is asking you to participate in insurance fraud. Report them to DBPR.
Some claims genuinely benefit from professional representation. A licensed Florida public adjuster represents you and can negotiate with your carrier. An attorney can do the same and can also pursue bad-faith claims if the carrier is operating outside their obligations.
Sarge does not refer to specific public adjusters or attorneys. We don't have a financial relationship with any of them, and we don't want to influence your choice. If you decide you want representation, search the Florida DFS license directory for licensed PAs and the Florida Bar for attorneys in your area.
Separate from any claim, these two inspections can affect your coverage going forward:
Both are inspections of your existing roof condition. They are not claims-related but they are often what determines whether your policy renews or doesn't.
No. Florida Statute 626.854 reserves claim filing and negotiation for licensed public adjusters and attorneys. A roofer can inspect, document, and provide a written estimate. The claim itself is between you and your carrier.
Sarge documents damage and provides written estimates that you can give to your carrier. We do not negotiate with adjusters or file claims for you. That stays under your control.
We never recommend it and Sarge does not use AOBs. Florida limited AOBs in 2019 and 2022 specifically because homeowners were getting locked into contracts they couldn't get out of.
No legitimate Florida contractor can guarantee a claim outcome. That decision belongs to your carrier and your adjuster based on your policy and the documented damage.
You have options - request reconsideration with additional documentation, hire a licensed public adjuster to negotiate on your behalf, or consult an attorney about a possible bad-faith claim. Sarge can provide supplemental documentation if useful, but the next steps are your decision.
