Churches Are Different. We Treat Them That Way.
Church roofing is not commercial roofing with a steeple on top. It's a genuinely different specialty the buildings are older, the structures are often historic or unique, the decision-making involves boards and committees, and the consequences of a leak affect not just a business but a congregation's place of worship. We've been roofing Central Florida churches for over three decades and we've learned what actually matters for these projects.
Why Churches Choose State Certified Roofing
- Veteran-owned Sarge (Sal Ybarra) is a U.S. Army veteran. Many church congregations have a strong veteran membership and appreciate doing business with fellow vets.
- Dual-licensed (CCC1334499 + CRC1335172) church roofing frequently uncovers structural issues (old rafters, damaged sheathing, settled trusses). Most roofers bring in a general contractor and charge you extra. We handle structural under the same permit.
- Board presentation materials we provide written proposals suitable for board presentation, with clear scope, timeline, financial options, and warranty documentation
- Financing discussions we can discuss payment terms, partial work phasing, and timing options that fit a church's budget cycle
- Respect for worship schedule we work around Sunday services, special events, and congregation needs
- Experience with historic buildings we've worked on older Central Florida churches including historic chapels and buildings with architectural significance
Common Church Roofing Projects
Steeples & Bell Towers
Steeple roofing is truly specialty work. The geometry is complex, the height adds safety and rigging challenges, and visibility means every detail shows. We handle complete steeple roof work including copper, standing seam metal, and specialty shingle applications on steeple tops, bell tower transitions, and cupola roofs. Recent work: copper metal steeple restoration in Ocala; standing seam metal on a Belleview church steeple.
Main Sanctuary Roofs
Most churches have a main sanctuary with either a complex pitched-roof system (often with exposed interior ceiling requiring careful water management) or a large-span assembly roof. We handle both. Sanctuary roof replacements are typically architectural shingle, metal, or tile depending on original building style and budget.
Fellowship Halls & Education Buildings
Many Florida churches have attached or nearby fellowship halls, classroom buildings, or multi-purpose facilities often with different roofing systems than the main sanctuary. Typical projects: TPO flat roof replacement on 1970s-80s education buildings, architectural shingle on pitched-roof fellowship halls.
Stained Glass Window Protection
Stained glass windows are irreplaceable. Standard roofing work can vibrate, stress, or damage stained glass if the contractor isn't careful. We take specific measures: padded access, controlled demolition, temporary protection around windows, and careful coordination of ground-level activity.
Bell Tower & Cupola Access
Specialty access for bell towers, cupolas, and architectural features requires rigging experience. We have the equipment and the know-how.
Historic Church Considerations
For churches on Florida's historic registers or with architectural significance:
- Historic preservation coordination we can work within historic district and preservation requirements
- Matching original materials when a church specifies matching original slate, clay tile, or architectural metal, we source and install correctly
- Documentation for historic records we provide before/during/after photo documentation appropriate for church archives
The Church Board Process
We understand the church board process:
- Initial site visit we inspect with the property committee or facilities chair, identify the scope, take photos, answer questions
- Written proposal suitable for board presentation, with line-item scope, clear pricing, timeline, and warranty terms
- Board presentation support if desired, Sarge will attend the board meeting to present the proposal and answer questions directly. No charge for this.
- Timing flexibility we work with your board's approval schedule and financial timing
- Phased work options if the full scope is too much budget at once, we can typically identify phased approach: steeple now, main sanctuary next year, fellowship hall in year three
Warranty & Documentation
Church roofing warranties typically range from 10 years on repair work to 30+ years on full system replacements with manufacturer backing. We provide complete documentation package for the church's permanent records.
