What Is Roof Recertification?
Roof recertification is a written statement from a licensed Florida roofing contractor certifying that your existing roof has a specific amount of useful life remaining. This is different from a 4-point inspection and different from a wind mitigation report.
A roof recertification specifically addresses the age question insurance companies ask: "Does this roof have enough life left that we should insure it?"
Recertification vs. 4-Point vs. Wind Mitigation
These three inspections are often confused. Here's the difference:
- Free Inspection Checks roof, electrical, HVAC, plumbing overall condition. Used for homes over 25 years old to get/keep coverage. Broader scope.
- Wind Mitigation Report Documents hurricane-resistant features that may earn carrier credits.
- Roof Recertification Specifically certifies remaining useful life of the roof. Used to overcome the 15-year age rule or insurance age concerns.
Depending on your situation, you might need one, two, or all three of these.
When Do You Need Roof Recertification?
- Your roof is 10-20 years old and you want to stay ahead of insurance issues
- You received a non-renewal notice citing roof age
- You're shopping for new insurance and carriers are refusing you
- You want to avoid a premature roof replacement
- Your existing recertification is expiring

2. On-Site Inspection
Typically 45-90 minutes. We walk the roof (safely), inspect from a ladder if too steep, photograph all areas including flashings, penetrations, decking visible from attic.
3. Condition Assessment
We assess:
- Shingle / tile / metal condition and granule or coating integrity
- Flashing around chimneys, skylights, pipes, wall abutments
- Ridge and hip conditions
- Underlayment integrity where visible
- Decking soundness from attic inspection
- Attic ventilation and moisture signs
- Gutter and drainage function
4. Written Certification
Within 24-48 hours you receive:
- Signed certification on State Certified Roofing contractor letterhead
- License numbers (CCC1334499 + CRC1335172)
- Assessment of remaining useful life (in years)
- Photo documentation
- Any noted conditions that should be monitored
What If the Roof Won't Certify?
We don't certify roofs that shouldn't be certified. If your roof has serious issues, we'll tell you and document what we see. That report can actually be valuable it:
- Gives you leverage in a storm damage insurance claim
- Documents pre-existing conditions for future reference
- Provides specific items you can repair to pass a future certification
Pairing with Other Inspections
Most Central Florida homeowners who need recertification also need a 4-point (if home is 25+ years old) and a wind mitigation report (to lower premium). We offer bundled inspection pricing when you need multiple reports ask when you call.
